How Much Is 14k Gold Worth Per Gram?

14k gold is 58.3% pure gold — 14 parts gold to 10 parts alloy, stamped 14K, 583, or 585. It’s the most common karat in US jewelry: most chains, class rings, and everyday pieces. At today’s spot, one gram of 14k gold holds about $80.96 in pure-gold value. That figure is the metal value — the melt floor — not what a pawn shop or scrap buyer will hand you, which is a percentage of it (see below).

How Much Is 10k Gold Worth Per Gram?

10k gold is 41.7% pure (stamped 10K or 417) — the lowest fineness that can legally be sold as “gold” in the US. You’ll see it in budget jewelry, older class rings, and some clasps and findings. One gram of 10k is worth about $57.84 in gold content today. Because it’s under half pure, 10k scrap adds up slower than people expect — weigh everything before assuming a piece is worth much.

How Much Is 18k Gold Worth Per Gram?

18k gold is 75% pure (stamped 18K or 750) — the standard for fine jewelry, most engagement rings, and European pieces. At three-quarters pure, it carries noticeably more value per gram than 14k: about $104.10 per gram at today’s spot. Designer and antique 18k can also carry value above melt, so don’t scrap a marked piece without checking its resale worth first.

Using This as a Scrap Gold Calculator

To value scrap gold, sort your pieces by the karat stamp (10K, 14K, 18K, etc.), weigh each group, and run them through the calculator at the matching karat. A digital kitchen scale in grams works; jewelers and refiners often weigh in pennyweight (dwt) — the calculator accepts both. What you get is the metal melt value: the ceiling. Pawn shops and cash-for-gold buyers pay a percentage of it, while bullion dealers pay closest to spot for larger, assayable lots. Always get more than one offer before selling.

How to Use the Calculator

Select your karat, enter the weight, and choose grams, troy ounces, pennyweight, or avoirdupois ounces. The total updates instantly against the live gold spot price shown at the top of the page. To value a mixed lot, run each karat separately and add the results — mixing karats in one weight will overstate the lower-karat pieces.

Scrap/Pawn Value vs. Dealer Value

Melt value is the floor for scrap gold, but few buyers pay it in full. Pawn shops and mall “cash for gold” booths typically pay a fraction of melt; independent refiners pay more on larger, sortable lots; and bullion dealers pay closest to spot for marked, assayable bullion. The wider the spread between melt and the offer, the more it pays to shop the sale around. When you’re ready, compare competing buyers rather than accepting the first quote.
